For the three people who may read this blog you may have noticed that I have had a hard time deciding on what theme I should use and what I want it to look like. Well, I think I have landed on one for a little while at least. But, an interesting thing happened on the way to making a decision.
I have visited many web sites that have third-party themes and designs and found several that I liked. But, when I installed them they never seemed to work. I would reinstall them and they still wouldn’t work. I was really starting to get bugged when I had a thought. “What would happen if I click on the little button at the top of my dashboard that says Its time to update WordPress to the latest version?” I have been avoiding this because, even though I’m pretty computer literate and the instructions are really easy to follow I was still worried that I might mess something up and lose all of my blogs. So, I procrastinate and sit in frustration because it sort of worked but not the way I wanted it to.
Well, last night was the night to risk it all and try something new. Backup the old blog (that was about 20 seconds), download the new files (about 1 minute), read the instructions three or four times (about 5 minutes—its only three steps), erase the old and install the new (about 5 minutes to upload), and try it out. And lo and behold, everything works. And all those themes that didn’t work? Yep, they work now. Imagine that. When you follow the instructions and use something the way it was designed life works a little easier. At least blogging software works that way. Thanks WordPress.
