As seasons ebb and flow through my life I find myself focusing on one or two particular themes. Lately, the idea of failure and mistakes seems to have landed within my field of vision. So much so that I’ve decided to put together a class called Failure 101—Learning To Fail Successfully. If you’re interested take a look www.failure101.org .
In my personal life, I have had to wrestle with the concept of mistakes and failure. I’ve bought several good lessons that have taught me valuable life lessons concerning risk, failure, and forgiveness. One lesson I bought in a game of poker cost me about $15.00 but the lesson I learned couldn’t have been obtained even if I had paid for 10 professional counseling sessions at $90.00 a piece. What’d I learn? “Are you playing to win or are you playing not to lose?”
In magazines and books I read I hear stories of Entrepreneurs that make costly mistakes. These stories seem to resonate within my soul and I read and re-read them to try and gain their perspective. Just tonight the caption to one article is “It doesn’t matter how you learn—just learn” as it goes on to describe several mistakes made by a book-smart but experience-poor CEO. Another CEO and company founder in the same magazine describes his million-dollar mistake. A MILLION DOLLARS. I dont’ know if I could recover from a mistake like that. I’d like to think I could but I just don’t know. What I do know is that I am wanting and willing to live a full life and that doesn’t happen without a certain level of healthy risk involved.
What do you say? Want to come along and see what happens?
