It’s a very common fear—the fear of the unknown.
A large majority of my sexual abuse clients have to told me that they would have started counseling much earlier, but kept finding excuses to put it off.
In reality, what they’ve told me is that “they didn’t know what to expect.”
The Most Common Questions
There is a common list of questions you might have before going into your first counseling session. You might not be able to articulate it yet (sometimes we don’t even know the questions to ask), but they are there.
If you could ask someone who has been through the process, your questions might sound something like:
- Why did you decide to do counseling?
- How did you find your counselor?
- What was it like making that first call?
- What was the first counseling appointment like?
- What was it like after your first counseling visit?
- What did you have to talk about?
- How long did you have to go to counseling?
- What did the relationship with your counselor look like?
- What was the hardest part of counseling?
- What was the most helpful part of counseling?
- How did counseling impact your relationships?
- How is life different after counseling
- What would you say to someone who is considering counseling?
Interviews With Other Survivors
Because it’s normal to fear something you have never done, I wanted to see if I could remove this obstacle for you by interviewing other women who have been through the counseling process and lived to tell the tale.
(I believe that hearing their answers first hand is far more compelling than anything I could ever say, even as a counselor.)
In these candid interviews, these women not only answer all the common questions, they help you gain a complete picture as to what the counseling process was like, what they were experiencing, and why they are glad they decided to take the step to get some help.
About The Audio Program
Counseling Stories is almost 2 hours of frank conversation with 5 different women. Each of the women have experienced different levels of sexual abuse and each have spent part of their adult lives trying to cope with the consequences of those experiences.
